Valentine's Day Reads
Here’s one for all you lovers out there… With Valentine’s Day so soon upon us, there are a plethora of wonderful romance graphic novels and comics here at Bedrock City and in this post we are celebrating some of the best reads and gifts for special someone in your life.
Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe
If you haven’t heard of the Webtoon greek myth sensation by now, I would be shocked. With its vibrant colors and captivating modern storytelling, it is no surprise that this is one of the most popular retellings of the Hades and Persephone myth. It follows the goddess of spring on her journey into adulthood among the pantheon and her contrast and budding romance with the God of the Underworld, Hades. It has recently been published in a physical format in a gorgeous hardcover collection which is currently on its third volume and is the perfect gift for any romance lover. It’s sweet, surprising, and funny and I can’t recommend it enough. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been obsessed with this story for years and finally being able to read it physically has been such a gift! (Check content warnings before reading!)
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
Heartstopper is another series that got its start as a webcomic, and after finally getting printed via Kickstarter, it rose to meteoric success following its Netflix live action adaptation just last year. It's an extremely sweet story of two high school boys falling in love and navigating the ups and downs of a budding relationship, and even just reading the first volume out of the four published, it will melt your heart. It has been one of the most popular LGBTQ+ stories published and for an extremely good reason. It’s a sugary sweet low stakes romance that has something for everyone so even as a gift for yourself or for a loved one, they will love it!!
Bedrock City is probably one of Gabirel Picolo’s biggest fan and we are so excited to have this title on our list! This is the book all the BBRae fans have been waiting for! The third book in the series Beast Boy Loves Raven by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo, has the two characters travel to Nashville under the guise of Slade helping them with their powers. Meeting for the first time in Nashville, both Gar and Rachel begin their blossoming romance as they struggle to trust each other with their secrets. This book and really the series is perfect for Teen Titans fans old and new, showcasing some of the best parts of Gar and Rachel’s interaction that made me nostalgic for episodes of Teen Titans. Alse be on the lookout for Picolo’s Robin title coming out this year!
Now for the silly side, Harley Quinn: The Animated Series Eat, Bang, Kill Tour is a Thelma and Louise style romcom following the cliffhanger of season two. Harley and Ivy have hit the road on their ultimate honeymoon adventure. Trying to cheer Ivy up from her wedding day blues of leaving Kite Man at the altar while also being on the run from the GCPD, this book takes the fun outlandish comedy of the animated series and brings heart to a romance once again we’ve all probably wanted since their earliest team ups in Batman The Animated Series.
Make it a date night and head to your nearest Bedrock City Comics and peruse these titles and more with the loved ones in your life this Valentine’s Day!
